2018 Was a Year of Firsts for Seaboard Triumph Foods
It’s been a big year of firsts for Seaboard Triumph Foods. We celebrated our first anniversary in September. We received our first Pride of Sioux City award which showed off our beautiful facility. Then, we accepted our first Growing Sioux City award which recognizes the huge economic impact we’ve made on the community. Now, we’re celebrating another first, an up-and-running second shift.
Let the Ramp Up Begin!
As our new plant celebrated one year in operation in September 2018, we were also gearing up to start our second shift of production. Beginning in May 2018, we started hiring and training for these positions. On October 15, 2018, second shift operations began along with the ramp up which will eventually allow us to double production!
At full two-shift capacity, the facility will process 21,000 market hogs daily or about 6 million hogs per year. Mark Porter, Seaboard Triumph Food chief operating offer, says, “We are so appreciative of the collaborative efforts with the regional hog producers who have helped supply our plant. Continuing to build new and strengthen existing relationships with those producers is very important to us.”
The More the Merrier
That’s why we’re going to continue to hire for production to make sure our plant is running at full capacity. There are currently openings for both first and second shifts in our Sioux City, Iowa processing plant. Hourly employees work in various areas of the facility, including stockyards, harvest, cut, conversion, trim blend, packaging, shipping, rendering and more.
The Seaboard Triumph Foods Sioux City plant, owned equally by strategic partners Seaboard Foods and Triumph Foods, produces fresh pork products under the domestic Prairie Fresh® Pork brand and Seaboard Farms® international brand. Seaboard Foods will continue to market and sell the pork produced by the Sioux City plant. The plant also supplies Daily’s® Premium Meats with raw materials for its premium pork products, including raw and precooked bacon.
Primary hog supplies are sourced from Triumph Foods producer-owners’ farms and Seaboard Foods’ farms. About 30 percent of the market hogs at the Sioux City plant will be sourced from regional farmers who align with Seaboard Triumph Foods’ animal care and environmental stewardship practices and share a common commitment to seeking a better way to produce wholesome pork.
We’re proud to be different. The design of the facility, constructed by numerous local and regional contractors and the construction management firm, Epstein, incorporates robotics and innovative technologies resulting in a modern, state-of-the-art facility to produce the most sought-after pork for diverse global consumers in several market segments including retail, international, food service and further processing markets.
