We're Proud to Be Growing Sioux City!

It’s been just over a year since production started in our Sioux City facility and we’re still growing. In fact, our investment of more than $330 million in our beautiful, state-of-the-art facility was recently recognized by the city.

Growing Sioux City Award

Sioux City Mayor Bob Scott presented COO Mark Porter with a Growing Sioux City award on October 9 at our 942,000 square-foot facility in Bridgeport Industrial Park. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds attended as well and provided remarks.

The Sioux City Economic Development department created the Growing Sioux City award as a way to recognize area businesses that offer significant growth and commitment to Sioux City. Companies are selected on a periodic basis and recognized by the mayor and council members.

As part of the award, the city gave a tree that symbolizes the growth of our business that is also helping to beautify the city. The tree was planted on the property and is a reminder that as it grows, so does our commitment to growing Sioux City.

We’re Making an Economic Impact

Our facility currently employs more than 1,800 workers and processes upwards of 10,500 hogs per day, but job growth isn’t the only impact we’ve made this past year. The event also celebrated the one-year anniversary of our facility. Since we started production this September, we’ve boosted the region’s economy with industry sales in other sectors such as transportation and warehousing, manufacturing and shipping, as well as healthcare and retail. Many area businesses, including suppliers, cold storage facilities and trucking firms have already begun expansion projects.

Our Impressive Year-Old Facility

Our Sioux City processing plant is one of the largest projects in Sioux City’s history. It sits on 250 acres in the Bridgeport west site which were purchased from the city. Construction costs were initially $260 million and a second phase brought the total capital investment to more than $330 million. Our facility is one of the most advanced and second largest pork facility in the world. It was designed from the ground up to be humane in the treatment of the animals it receives and provide not only a safe work environment for employees but also a quality fresh pork product for consumers. It uses advanced automation and robotics to improve worker safety, increase product yield and reduce waste.

More Growth to Come

Our first shift is fully operational and we’re currently hiring for our second shift. Once our second shift hiring is complete, we will employ an estimated 2,400 people (including management and management support). With the first shift, the facility now processes upwards of 10,500 hogs per day, (over 3 million annually), and that number will double upon total deployment of the second shift’s personnel.

We’re excited about where we’ve been and where we’re going. If you want to be a part of our growing team check out our careers page.
