STF Employee Raises Money for Children's Miracle Network

Jim Maynes, a recently retired wastewater supervisor of Seaboard Triumph Foods (STF) has been raising money for the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) with his motorcycle group, the Siouxland Miracle Riders, for three years. For the last two years, STF has been a proud sponsor of their annual ride across the U.S.

This year, the five riders raised over $43,000 to go towards new bassinets for CMN.

“My first introduction to the Siouxland Miracle Riders was probably in 2018 or 2019 when they were setup at the Sioux City Farmer’s Market. Then, after a brief conversation after church one day with retired Woodbury Country Sherriff Dave Drew, who had been on previous rides, I was convinced to join the Miracle Riders in 2020,” said Jim.

Currently riding a 2015 Indian Chieftain, Jim has been riding since he got his first dirt bike at 12 years old, but his connection to this fundraiser goes even deeper.

"The Children’s Miracle Network has occupied a special place in our hearts ever since our family faced one of life’s challenges in 2005. That is the year that our precious 14-year-old daughter was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a type of bone cancer that normally afflicts children and young adults. The year that followed was a tumultuous one, with one major surgery, numerous follow-ups, and 14 rounds of chemotherapy, each lasting from 3-5 days. But I’m happy to say, with the wonderful support of the CMN, we were able to celebrate a victory over this insidious disease! So now that we are empty nesters, the time seems right to try to repay a small portion of the blessings that we received from CMN,” said Jim.

His favorite stop on this year’s trip was Crater National Park “because of the beauty, and several of the interactions they had with kids and their families, as they hand out toys every year on their rides.”

The 2022 Ride for Miracles departed Sioux City on Monday, July 18th, and returned on Friday, July 29th. Riders stopped in parks like Yellowstone and Glacier National Park, as well as riding down the northern portion of the Pacific Coast Highway.
