Food Bank of Siouxland’s 15th Annual 'Empty Bowls' Hunger Awareness Event presented by Seaboard Triumph Foods
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (Jan. 7, 2019) — The Food Bank of Siouxland is pleased to announce the Fifteenth Annual 'Empty Bowls' Hunger Awareness Event presented by Seaboard Triumph Foods. This year’s dinner with live and silent auction to benefit the Food Bank of Siouxland will be held at the Sioux City Convention Center. The Food Bank is very grateful to the Sioux City Convention Center for welcoming this event with open arms.
Empty Bowls is a fundraiser benefiting the Food Bank of Siouxland and proceeds help fight hunger in our communities. The new venue, Sioux City Convention Center, will provide access to free off-street parking during the event in the two near-by parking garages. The Sioux City Convention Center is located at 801 4th Street, Sioux City, IA. The doors will open at 5:00 p.m. with a social hour, electric harp by Mary Watts, Koated Kernels Popcorn Bar, live auction preview, and silent auction. The dinner is at 6:00 p.m., followed by the live auction. This popular event draws nearly 700 guests and is often sold out before the event date, so advanced ticket purchases are required.
Empty Bowls is an international effort to fight hunger. The concept is simple – local artists from beginners to the experienced create hand-crafted bowls for the event which serve as a reminder that there is hunger in our community and hunger is the most solvable social issue of our time. Guests at the event receive a bowl to keep, along with enjoying a lovely meal of soups donated by area restaurants and chefs, fresh bread, and desserts by Hy-Vee Bakery. Mary Watts, a member of the Sioux City Symphony and a former Principal Harp of the Des Moines Symphony, will be playing a variety of music on her electric harp during the silent auction and social hour. A live auction will once again be part of the program with Randy Stabe and Clint Voss from Stabe Auction & Realty as auctioneers. Many donors make this event successful by gifting bowls, food, and auction items, as well as volunteering their time. Media sponsor KTIV supported the promotion of the event to raise community awareness.

In addition all the food is graciously donated by local restaurants and individuals including Aggies, Brightside Café, Chef Casey at Morningside College, Minervas, Zort’s Prime Time, SoHo, M’s on 4th, Pierce Street Coffee Works, Pizza Ranch, Casey’s Bakery, Koated Kernels, Hy-Vee, and more. All of the auction items are also donated. Special thanks also expressed to the Sioux City Convention Center and to KES Productions for accommodating the change in venue.

The Food Bank of Siouxland is the main food supplier year-round for Siouxland nonprofit agencies, including food pantries, homeless shelters, soup kitchens, residential facilities, day care and senior centers, as well as 100 member agencies in eleven counties in Iowa and Nebraska.
